Unmasking a Good Cause

I realize that was a clickbait-y headline, but don’t worry, we were masked the whole time.

Every year, the Dell Children’s Trust throws a donor gala to help raise money for medical research that will benefit the greater Austin medical community and the nation at large. This gala usually involves a dinner and entertainment on top of presentations by the hospital’s top doctors—those presentations also include video packages that we would usually produce.

This year, of course, was different.

Threatened with the possibility of completely cancelling the effort to raise money, the Dell Children’s Trust came to us for possible solutions. What we offered was creating an event completely on a Zoom call, complete with entertainment, speakers, video packages and live Q&A, much like how the event would go in person.

We setup and run the entire event as a live broadcast, complete with a switcher for multiple cameras and audio, prepared video packages, powerpoint slides and a Zoom chat with the doctors themselves. The event happened prior to the State of Texas’ updates to production rules, so we did our best to work with the hospital’s protocol. Since the event was produced at the hospital, we performed everything dawning masks and keeping at least a 6-foot distance as much as possible, all procedures that have become commonplace and the practice of productions during the pandemic.

Despite the difficulties early on in the pandemic quarantine, we were able to produce the event responsibly and provide video packages and live-stream support without a hitch.

The Dell Children’s Trust achieved all of their donation goals and every doctor that presented was fully funded! A huge thank you to the Dell Children’s Trust for working with us during a period of time that was still unpredictable. This is proof that limitations are only problems that we can solve together and that no goal is out of reach.
